First Day Intro

     Hi, my name is Hilary Richards and I am a 4th year senior at Florida State University.  I transferred here last year, from UCF in Orlando after realizing I wanted a more authentic, "college town" experience; the big city just wasn't for me. I am from the gorgeous Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, only two hours west of Tallahassee, (most people know as Destin). 
My favorite hobby is getting slobbery kisses from my Great Dane, Yadi. 

     My current class, Intro to Education Technology has grabbed my interest because of it's involvement with learning and the technology we use every day. I believe I have a thorough background and history with basic educational technologies, such as Microsoft Office and Apple Interfaces. I also have some experience using Adobe illustrator and other Adobe platforms. 

     By the end of this class, I hope to learn more about the future of high-tech products in educational settings. Not just usage in college and university classes, but in K-12 classrooms around the country. I grew up with the beginning of PC's and Smart boards in class, but I hope to learn about the upcoming technology, as my children will be utilizing everything from artificial intelligence to virtual reality in their education.

    OMG I LOVE DOGS! Yadi is so cute and I am excited to see his pics all semester long. It is crazy how fast college goes by. I am also excited to see how technology will continually progress for kids and how we will adapt teaching methods for technology.

Blog Journal 10 23 April 2019 Data collection and reporting is more important in the teacher world than many people think. Teachers use data collection even when they don't realize it. Even asking your students "let me see a show of hands how many of you would rather have cookies or cake for the holiday party," is data collection and surveying. Teaching at all ages has its fair share of data collection through surveys, but especially in older grades such as high school and college. After every semester in college, students have to take surveys on each of their classes, teachers, and even their TA's. If I pursue a career in education, I am sure I will use not only surveying but excel as well in my everyday career. Simply because grade-booking is something every teacher has to do. Blog Journal 7 7 March 2019 I've been a tweeter since I was a wee high-schooler, but since it's surfaced, Twitter has changed drastically. It's transformed into a professional, business communication tool from a silly, friendly social media. By using it in school, I've learned that it's a great way to combine the classroom with a comfortable online forum. We are able to keep it light and joke around while still connecting with our classmates and talking about topics related to whatever we're doing in class. Twitter is pretty easy to use with a very simple interface, so I haven't experienced any issues since it's not too difficult to navigate. This past week, we had to "put on our teacher hats" and create a website for whatever class we decided to teach.
