Data collection and reporting is more important in the teacher world than many people think. Teachers use data collection even when they don't realize it. Even asking your students "let me see a show of hands how many of you would rather have cookies or cake for the holiday party," is data collection and surveying. Teaching at all ages has its fair share of data collection through surveys, but especially in older grades such as high school and college. After every semester in college, students have to take surveys on each of their classes, teachers, and even their TA's. If I pursue a career in education, I am sure I will use not only surveying but excel as well in my everyday career. Simply because grade-booking is something every teacher has to do. Although it's all on computers now and easier than ever, it's still so important to be knowledgeable in this subject for any grade level you may teach.
Throughout the year in EME 2040, we had to write blog posts and read and comment on our classmate's blog posts. This had to be one of my favorite times in the class being able to see what my classmates thought about each subject, assignment, and even get to know them a little bit better. It was especially interesting to hear each of their voices come through in their writing. My favorite blog of all time in my EME class was "The Bloggin' Tank." Although this blog stayed anonymous, I feel like I know the person because of their wit, humor, and personality they put into their blog. (Whoever you are, great job!!) Besides getting to know my classmates, the topics we talked about on our blogs held my attention because I could use them to get ideas for my own assignments. I specifically enjoyed reading my classmate's opinions on our trip to the tech sandbox, watching their ILP's and taking their surveys!
After EME 2040, I feel as if I could take on any technology that is thrown my way, but unfortunately, I ain't no tech wizard just yet!
One thing I do hope to become better at in the future is excel. Although we did a lesson on it, I still don't feel as confident as I should feel. (maybe because I've missed the last entireeee week of school!) However, with the tools and resources I have gained in EME, I want to use tools such as Lynda to gain more knowledge in this area, as well as other topics. I feel that with resources such as Lynda and Diigo, I am ready to take on anything.
